Medical Assistant – Arlington Location

Summary of Position:

The Medical Assistant within the Help Center is responsible for performing various patient care duties and preparing patients for examinations and procedures. The Medical Assistant may assist in cleaning exam rooms and equipment, documentation, laboratory functions, ordering medical supplies, and/or providing services under supervision of a licensed medical provider.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Adhere to HELP Center policies/procedures
  • Room patients and obtain patient history at appointment intake
  • Assist with patient check-in and scheduling of appointments
  • Obtain vital signs on patients for clinician
  • Perform phlebotomy and lab specimen processing
  • Perform injections such as vaccines and antibiotic treatment when needed (clinical competency check off requir
  • Assist with maintaining medical supply inventories
  • Clean/stock exam rooms
  • Act as a liaison between the laboratories, clinicians, and patients
  • Maintains a system of confidentiality and HIPAA guidelines
  • Contributes to teamwork with the HELP Center
  • Performs other related duties as assigned

 

Required Qualifications

  • High School Graduate or GED
  • 1-Year Experience in Direct Patient Care

 

Required Licensure/Certification/Specialized Training

  • Certified Medical Assistant (CMA) Registered Medical Assistant (RMA), American Medical Technologists (AMT), or American Association of Medical Assistants (AAMA)
  • BLS Certification

 

Preferred Qualifications

  • Bilingual English and Spanish is highly desired
  • 2+ years direct patient care experience
  • Experience in STD clinics, working with patients on sexual health issues
  • Experience working in community health settings

Physical Requirements

  • Prolonged standing, sitting, walking, reading, writing, talking, use of computer
  • Hearing ability for verbal communication via telephone systems, and person-to-person and to perform assessments such as obtaining blood pressure
  • Clear concise speaking ability to provide information and instruction
  • Visual acuity to read information from computer screens, forms and other printed material and information
  • Manual and tactile dexterity for use of computer keyboard/typing, writing, handling/sorting objects and forms
  • Flexibility and body movement for bending, crouching, walking, kneeling, standing, reaching, lifting and moving objects and equipment (approximately 25 lbs or more with assistance), sitting.
  • Able to meet physical demands of the job with assistive or adaptive devices or reasonable accommodations

 

Work Environment

  • Work is indoors and is subject to schedule changes and/or variable work hours
  • Local travel to duties may be performed at multiple sites
  • Exposure to environmental temperature changes, air/blood borne pathogens such as HIV, Hep B, TB, CoVID-19, and other contagious diseases
  • Environment can be noisy, and can involve frequent interruptions and distractions
